The Telegraph had a good full-page article the other day about what a hung parliament means, but I can't find it online.

There's no very clear rules because it happens so seldom. Generally the leader of the party with the most seats will be invited to try to form a government. The assumption is that he'll try to get enough allies from other parties to put together a workable cross-party government with enough power to get things done.

If this attempt fails, the leader of the next-biggest party might be invited to try to form a government, if it seems plausible that he might succeed. Otherwise there would be a vote of no confidence and a new general election in a very short time.

This time the situation is even more hairy because of Labour's new internal party rules. They would almost certainly want Brown out, but they can't choose a new party leader without a formal internal election process. They might well be leaderless for months.

And in the meantime the UK will carry on as it has for the past few weeks regardless. Makes you wonder if we really need any MPs at all.....

I quite agree with you Mandrake, it does make you wonder what it would be like with a more refined government instead of dozens of lieing scumbags.

That said, im off to vote now - Conservative.

My local mp is Hazel Blears who was sacked from the cabinet in the expense scandal, the conservative guy up against her is Ginger, it was a joke by the way. My vote counts for nothing Sadly as it's such a labour area it can merely be a n anti Blears vote, I actually went Lib Dems as they have the most chance of ousting Blears AND the conservative guy does my even live in the constituency.

This might be nitpicking but as well as taking into account the addresses of the candidates, I also checked the campaign leaflets pushed through the letterbox. If they were printed by a firm more than 50 miles away then it told me all I needed to know about that candidate's local commitment.... or lack of it.

I just heard a local interview with a group of elderly ladies. The presenter asked what they thought about the possibility of a hung Parliament and also to the refused voters.

Their response: "Well it's all very exciting isn't it" "oooo yes, a bit like Corry really"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No... the only people voting for Cameron are the people in his constituency.

The rest of us voted for a local MP to represent us in Westminster.

If you looked, you'd see that David Cameron, Gordon Brown and Nick Clegg were probably not listed on your ballot paper - unless your local MP happens to be David cameron, Gordon Brown or Nick Clegg.

So... Agecroft's local Tory candidate was ginger. Chances are he's not David cameron.

OK. I think I've got my head round the politics malarchy this year.
But can someone explain to me how Ed Balls managed to keep his seat?

Looking at the map, it seems that there's a more defined North/South/Far North divide this time round.

I'll be interested to see how it pans out in policies. I certainly don't expect Mr Cameron to give any thought to representing the interests of the North of England.

Looks like it might just be the right time to break out the strong booze and the hardcore pornography. Then the shouty angry music.
