Talk about a close bloody battle! Reading the BBC Uk election results article they describe it as a football match. Looks like a hung parliament between conservatives and labour then - something i certainly didnt expect , conservative have the majority vote though.

No... the only people voting for Cameron are the people in his constituency.

The rest of us voted for a local MP to represent us in Westminster.

If you looked, you'd see that David Cameron, Gordon Brown and Nick Clegg were probably not listed on your ballot paper - unless your local MP happens to be David cameron, Gordon Brown or Nick Clegg.

So... Agecroft's local Tory candidate was ginger. Chances are he's not David cameron.

It's the hairy scenario as described by the Telegraph earlier in the week. By convention, Brown (as the incumbent PM) should be given the first chance to try to form a government, because usually the incumbent party still holds the most seats. But this time round that's not the case. There's a reasonable argument that Labour has in fact lost its mandate to govern -- they were beaten, even though nobody else actually won.

This will be even more complicated if Brown decides to step down (fat chance) or if the party decides to give him the heave-ho. He can't really be offered the option to form a government if he's not going to be around. And given the complexity of Labour leadership contests, there may not be a clear party leader for some time.

To mess things up further, even if Labour is given the first bite of the cherry and they form an alliance with the LibDems, together they still don't make a majority. The Conservatives and LibDems together would be a majority, but even if they managed to agree to get into bed together for the sake of expedience, there are too many policy differences for them to work well together.

Well... the only thing the tories haven't tried to legislate against is the shouty angry music.

But that's cos most of them don't know it exists. Unlike the booze and porn, which was all good fun at Eton, but much too dangerous for the great unwashed.

Mind you - it was a Labour MP that claimed for her husband's porn on her expenses.

They did however ban representatives talking to the band crass.

I've just watched Cameron's speech with that munificent offer to the Lib Dems. Whilst the words sound reasonable for the next few months or so I suspect the longer term aim is to do the same as Harold Wilson did and call another asap election to get a working majority then ditch the Lib Dems unceremoniously.

I remember Gordon Brown offering key cabinet positions to people like Shirley Williams and other non-Labour MPs when he first became PM.

I thought the move was bold, foward-thinking and genuinely radical. It was also a very genuine attempt to get cross-party thinking at play - rather than the current situation where leaders need to make up numbers to enforce their will. All the MPs Brown approached turned down his offer at the behest of their respective parties.

I reckon that if one of the two eejits has to sit in command of a hung parliament, Brown's the better choice.

Shame if there is another count, the lib dems will loose even more seats with people thinking its a pointless vote again. :(

Brilliant quote from BBC Election Website:

"If you think David Cameron is frustrated at finding himself without a majority, spare a thought for poor Great Yarmouth council candidate Bob Peck. Tied on 1,034 votes with Labour opponent Charlie Marsden, he was offered a pack of cards by the returning officer and told the candidate who drew the highest number would win. Mr Peck picked a three while his rival drew a lucky seven to claim the seat. Barmy? Maybe, but it's all within the rules"

Now THAT's the way to do it!!!!
