Wow, what a smug little troll Zoe Williams is.

It would be passé to go on about Jonathan Ross's lisp, but hosting Penn and Teller, he seems to have stopped enunciating altogether. Maybe he only enunciates for top dollar. "Get ready to be full!"

Hahaha, yeah. Cause he's got a speech impediment. Hilarious.

Penn, who looks like a man who doesn't mind being full at all, looked as confused as I was.

Bam! Again! Brilliant. Cause he's large.

It wasn't until the camera panned back to show the full set that I realised he meant "fooled"

Did she not see the opening titles? Or the EPG on her TV? Or read her brief as a TV critic to see what the shows were called? Oh, unless she's doing it for comic effect in which case fetch me a needle and thread for my sides have split.

Why must ever second critic always feel the need to be so smug? It really annoys me. Charlie Brooker is the only one who manages to do it well.

Because most critics these days are looking for fame themselves (through their writing). It's about "Being talked About" "Being Recognised" & being "Acknowledged" ................... Everyone's at it!!! (Even on the forums!)

Its The Guardian. It should be just as ignored as the Daily Mail.

It is interesting what non-magicians find engaging.

I thought that the young kid was great. My nine-year-old was bored by the six card repeat (which I loved) and kept on about the twisting-arm-box-contraption (which I didn't) "but his arm was actually twisted". Brilliant!

I was fooled by the PK ring though. I thought that the cards were magnetic as in the second round the magician's cards were used not the specatator's.

What I find interesting is that performers seem to take one of two approaches with this show.

They'll either:

A) Come on with an effect especially designed as a 'magician fooler' in order to fulfil the brief of the show to the letter.

Or:

B) Do some of their favourite, most comfortable - and most commercial - material, so as to make the most of the airtime and prime time exposure.

Those who take path B will be aware from the get-go that they don't stand a snowball's chance of getting the Vegas gig. But they'll also be doing the most entertaining stuff. The saddest part of it being that after packing the biggest punch with the audience, P&T are then obliged to take the wind out of their sails.

In my experience, magician foolers are rarely ever audience winners.

If the show has a weakness, then I think that's it. Won't stop me from watching next week, though.

"Magician foolers" - This sort of thing happens in other forms of entertainment too. As a guitarist I know the sort of thing to play that'll impress other guitarists, but it'll bore the pants off a regular audience. And then you play some crowd-pleasing numbers, the place goes wild and the guitarists in the audience cross their arms and stifle a yawn...

Comes down to which you want more. One gig in Vegas, or potentially your calendar for the next year filled by people who loved seeing what you did on TV.

Not that I'm getting protective of the show but could some of its ratings woes be related to the fact it's sandwiched between two pretty dire shows? I see Odd One In and Marriage Ref being grouped together but Fool Us hardly fits in with the rest.

I say that having seen about 5 minutes of Odd One In and 10 minutes of Marriage Ref. Both looked like tired "wacky" panel shows.

T.V. execs panic, if ratings targets are not met. It's Summer, & the evenings are warmer, people go out, have barbecues etc, ratings are BOUND to drop at this time of the year!!!! They should have aired the show in the winter months................ (like I think they did when the pilot shows were aired!!)

All good wishes
