i own this DVD, and i agree with most people... it is BRILLIANT!
while i, like i imagine many people, had an "inkling" re how it was done, the fact is, my presentation is far better WITH the DVD than without it because Wayne Houchin's handling is just so clever, so well thought through, his advice and tips are great value.
this is not the first time, and no doubt will not be the last time, that the "moral" issue of intellectual property ownership, "guessing" a trick's handling vs buying the information etc comes up. it is a tough one. there is nothing quite like it. earlier comments in this thread, such as "it's like a kid learning a song off the radio instead of buying the sheet music" are not well thought through. compare primary areas of potential revenue for the artist who wrote the song vs the artist who created the effect, as one simple example of why the comparison doesn't work. i own about a dozen Patents and several Trademarks so i am somewhat qualified to discuss this issue.
so, to those of you who are constantly frustrated by people saying "ha... i dont need to buy it because i worked it out from the preview..."
~ lighten up, most likely they haven't worked out anything, and if they have worked out "something" you can rest assured it wont be everything and so "your" handling will be far better than "their's".
and to those of you who think it is A-OK to try and guess a trick without paying for it, perform a half A$$ version of it and then have 2/3's of the spectators guess what you gleaned having watched the preview video 100 times because your handling was so poor... we are allowed to be annoyed with you because we dont mind paying a fair price for someone's hard work on the basis that if they dont make money they will stop inventing... and then we (and you) will be stuck performing whatever "we" can come up with...
