Struggling with an effect? Any tips (without giving too much away!) you'd like to share?

She's quite restrained then, I find a kick in the shin much more effective :)

who said that? I'm reading voices.... :?

back to the pulse stop, i've also done the neck one with an expert martial martial artist friend of mine, he's absolutely fascinated by it...especially as he's into chi energies and meditations and so forth...

he has absolutely no idea how it's done and was very impressed (thankfully), but he does know a kinda Jermay version himself for the wrist pulse stop through his training...

as an added touch, when i come round from it again, i was born an asthmatic, so when i come back to normal - i occasionally take a little puff from my inhaler too....

I wonder if it's possible to temporarily stop my WIFE'S pulse?

Would be a great thing for a Sunday morning, I could sit in bed and read a while, and then re-suscitate her at around 1pm to put the oven on and get the chicken in.

Hee, hee - I've got thousands more like that

OK, back to the plot - do you really think specs will be all that impressed with pulse stopping? The 'secret' is something I knew about at a very early age and even though talented performers such as David Berglas made the process into a superb work of showmanship, I've never been very impressed. Derren Brown did it well on the Something Wicked' tour and TV show but I can't help feeling most specs will be thinking , 'So what?'

I don't like the pulse stop as it is but if you use it along side something like a watch stop as a kind of 'I can stop time' type effect it can be very good. It's an idea I got from a book which does work really well.

i was toying with my last "breath" revealing something using ghost glass...far too complicated though...

i like the neck stop alot i must admit, i only use it as an example of fakirs and "esoteric studying" can do with the power of the mind...

i wonder if there's a method to block the supply of blood to a woman's gob? stop all that silly chat about posh spice eh

Which is also the same way I scripted it in the effect 'Pulse' in my book, Get Fluxed. It makes a much more credible performance to incorporate it. I think just purely stopping one's own pulse for the sake of it is more fakirism than magic/mentalism.

Now I think I must have missed out on the 'gossip about celebs' gene. Leave the poor girls alone I say, they can do what they want as long as it's not hurting anyone else.

i was only kidding y'know... :!:

they're quite welcome to gossip as long as they include me who they are gossiping about...anything to stop them nagging...

i was just thinking though, maybe you could combine a pulse stop, with Jermays palm twisting thing (cant remember the title RGM? reverse gerstalt movement?) but altered slightly? someone staring at your palm as you talk, and another taking your pulse with the other wrist...

I enjoy do pulse stopping (For Andruzzi) with a few spectators but I find on a stage enviroment, there is not much for the audience to see. They are just taking the spectators words for it I suppose. Good for close up though.
There is a really nifty method in the book "Sleight of Mind" which I have found to be very effective. Using this and Jermay's one combined you can have one person checking your pulse on your arm and the other on your neck which adds to the realism.

I find the pulse stop quite useful, i've got one of those stupid wrist bands which are meant to help circulation of the blood.
I never have believed in such nonsende but wear it as its a christmas present from my mum, however friends still laugh at me for wearing it.
Now however i just go "It really works" and take of the band and stop my pulse and get my friends to check it and i tell them I'm so used to it without it my blood won't flow.
The technique i use is from one of Derren Brown's books, can't remember which one though, sorry.
