I just got my tickets. Unfortunately the VIP tickets where sold out, so I hope this does not mean that there always will be 500 people in front of me!

Magic is slight of mind!

There are usually lectures and demos plus contests between invited performers during the day and then a gala theatre show in the evening. At the same time during the day there are zillions of dealers ready to separate you from your hard earned wad with the minimum of effort. If you can fit in lunch at some point you’ll be doing well and there’s just enough time before the gala shows for more food and a few drinkie-poos. After the Sunday show there’s a separate after show party with a choice of cabaret or close-up magic accompanied by hotpot with pudding afterwards. All this takes place with what seems like thousands of other magicians all ‘doing a few things’ to amaze each other. I usually feel totally cream crackered after the weekend – it’s utter and total magic overload but as it’s only once a year, there’s plenty of time to recover. Just don’t forget to fill in the ticket application form in the brochure to make sure you get your Blackpool 2008 tickets - they usually start to be allocated and sent out in July/August this year!

aces. I'm curious about about the competitions now. the kind of competitions we do at juggling conventions are endurance (where you just try and juggle longer than anyone else) or gladiator ( where you try and juggle longer than anyone but you're allowed to try and knock other peoples clubs or balls out of the air, hence eliminating them) and so forth
wonder if this could be adapted for magic in any way

These are more like theatre shows but a panel votes for the best one. All very laid back but it gives a good chance for each performer to showcase their best material. I think the 'contestants' are usually invited to take part.

Seems like most TM members are there on Saturday, can a time be found so we don't miss interesting programme in the convention?

I suggest that Bananafish and Mandrake decide on behalf of the rest, where and when to meet, post it here in good time, so we can all meet for a pint and a chat. Perhaps Tomo can show us a good Stripper deck routine, Søren can show us some mind reading and Lady of Mistery can show us a Valentines trick :)

How about it?

PS. I see that Tony Hyams is twice on the list.

Sadly I have to be in Quebec that week, so I will miss the festivities. Looks great. Be good if we get a nice review posted after the convention.

Just been in touch with Arthur Casson about getting a ticket. Its very possible that i'll be joining you fine people for Saturday and Sunday! As soon as i talk to my work tomorrow, i should have an excellent idea of if i can come or not! Hopefully see you all there!

I was born with Multiple Personality Disorder. Luckily, they are all me, they just dont always get along...

At the moment, no idea! The 'problem' with Blackpool is that there's hardly time to eat with all the lectures and so on and it's very likely that at any given point in the weekend, some of us will be in lectures or at shows. Hotels and pubs afterwards are usually so rammed full that you can't breathe let alone pose a couple of dozen people for a photo and, at this time of year, it gets dark outside quite early. Sometime during the day would seem to be ideal and if there's a bit of space inside the Winter Gardens - possibly in The Horseshoe where the close up demos are held - then that might be the area to use. Timing of this potentially historic event isn't quite so easy to arrange so perhaps we need more thoughts and suggestions?

should we post pictures of ourselves so we could randomly notice one another? this is pretty much the reason i changed my avatar to a picture of myself

The picture will help us to recognise you L. But to be honest with a great big yellow ball stuck to your cheek, I feel you would have been very noticible anyway.

Maybe thats what we all should do. TM members at blackpool should wear a yellow ball on their cheek.
