Where can I get the complete Tarbell set without purchasing them seperately? Also where can I find the complete Harry Loraynes Apocolypse set.

Im thinking about

Strong Magic – Darwin Ortiz
Dai Vernon book of magic
Still fancy a pot of Jam
Oddball
Paint surprise
Magus capsule
Sankeys earplugs

I think that sounds like a strong list so far> ??

I may though.. but Oddball and Sankey stuff myself and use the rest of the money to invest in Tarbell.. unless.. who would suggest Apocolypse as a stronger investment?

I just really wanted somthing I wouldnt be able to afford otherwise and a few effects that play big and pack small.. just to add to a vastly growing repotiore.

Blapse -- I have de-ring now.. cobra cut and cradle to grave I crave but I should really hold them off for now.

http://www.cards4magic.co.uk/acatalog/Books.html

http://www.magicshop.co.uk/vernon-book- ... p-771.html

http://www.alakazam.co.uk/acatalog/books4.html

then you have a lifetime's worth of material...you'll never need to buy anything ever again...

EDIT: with the exception of RRTCM, Mark Wilson and the gag books, you could order every book there down to and including Dear Mr. Fantasy by the mighty John Bannon....that would be stupid though, as there's some repitition involved...but you get the idea...

SECOND EDIT: you could though, just give it to me, and i'll put it towards this: http://www.stevensmagic.com/shopping/sh ... sp?id=8215
i think that would be the sensible choice...

I cant check the cards4magic site at work but..

Books:
Card Fictions
Dai Vernon A book of Magic
Dai Vernon : A biography
Strong Magic
CUPS urge:
Oddball
Paint Surprise
Blindsight
Magus Capsule
Earplugs

that should do it I think.. Ill probably throw in conjunctions as it has been receommended. Ill check it out later tonight when I get home

the only other thing i'd say is...well, only going on an old post of yours about going out and starting gigging...

maybe resist the knee-jerk shiny objects and work out which you could link together to form a proper routine/set?

none of my business obviously, but maybe consider the £250 as a little investment into getting yourself up and running and making yourself a nice little side income instead?

but the choice is up to you mate...none of my bees wax at the end of the day!

Magicbox do the Apocalypse books. They're very expensive but I think you'll be delighted with the stuff in them. They are packed full of good ideas, sleights and effects.
www.internationalmagic.co.uk do the Tarbell books, not sure if they do them as a set, but I know that Keith Bennett in Birmingham and Repro Magic do.

Trust me, all these books have so many good things in them that are easy to learn/make, you will never be without somewhere to look for some new stunners.

You're right Abraxus.. thats exactly what Im trying to do..

I didnt really get on the right track with magic till I joined here and was put on the right path ( the one thats not ellusionist ) and since then I bought everything I could afford as per CUPS allowed.

Since the beginning of January Ive slowed down and tried to routine everything.. segment my stuff into eadible portions and tried to organise my time into scheduled learning.. which is actually working.. im currently on TT, sponges and IT work ( though IT is still giving me VAST amounts of headache ) but its all paying off..

If I can clear my head and use the £250 to get me off on the direction of creating working routines that I can use in the right environments.. Id be over the moon. I have Jays real work on restaurants and bars..

If anything I need a good source on misdirection ( just because I dont have one yet, I just create my own from bits and bobs mentioned here and there ), audience management and things like that.

The effects Im trying to collate togther now are effects that work in the working performers environment so I can start creating routines specificaly designed for going into work, hence magus capsule and earplugs.

but yes.. on that track with that purpose i mind.. what would the working pro suggest..

Magic and Showmanship by Henning Nelms is a book worth investing in and Win The Crowd by Steve Cohen covers stagecraft really well.
I am due to have about £400 free for magic related goodies in a month or so and intend to invest in some books such as the other Apocalypse tomes, last two Tarbell vols and Art of Astonishment.
Although gimmicks are good diversions, I feel I have learnt more from books than any other source and got a lot of inspiration from people's thinking.

i certainly wouldnt class myself as a working pro...but for me, i found it best to work out "what you are" and let that shape the magic you do...

by that i mean, if you suss out the "what skills/powers am i portraying" to perform the effects im doing...then the rest kinda follows...

a very brief example is The Amazing Kreskin, i was watching his dvd the other day, and he sat down, telling the audience that before he started experimenting with the mind, he loved cards...he spent hours working with them...

he produces a pack and says "y'know what, i spent 7 years learning to do this..." he shows a card to the audience, puts it into the deck and quickly flicks his wrist of the hand holding the cards...."look..." the card is back on top...

and the strange thing is, people audibly gasped...some even looked a little shocked...(a real audience too, not an L&L)

for me, its all about the delivery of the material, and making any display of skill or intuition believable...but thats just my thoughts...

it would be nice to be sitting down, having a beer, and someone approaching me with some cards, and said "hey there, im a card-cheat..."
and then just blast into some classic effects...no magic clicking of fingers, but pure displays of skills...

before this turns into a waffle or a rant...i'll shut up...

enjoy your money!

lol..

My performance style varies a little dependign on what Im doing .. generally I put my magic forward as a demonstration of skills I have acquired over the years through experimentation.. some of which I dont fully understand, others which I am totally in control over but either of which I can do nonetheless. I keep it quite light hearted, so that I can get the audience involved and laughing and enjoying themselves

For darker effects, I imply that I have learned a lot about the way the mind works and that through the study of the way the mind works I can alter the way people appear to see or understand things. That usually is what I revolve my mentalism type effects round.

I like the idea of introducing myself as someone who is skilled and some of my routines are simply demonstrations of this..

I am heavily inspired by Jay Sankey.. and also Paul Harris... but i need to focus on seting up a small part time on the side money earner..

Hmm.. a lot to think about..

Sod being sensible, you'll only overload yourself with stuff you'll never really appreciate cos you got so much of it.

Spunk the lot on summat shiny and or expensive, Human Phone Number for example.

I do have a lot of stuff.. havent worked all the way through Mark Wilsons course yet.. or Art of Astonishment.. or Card College.. or Dai Vernons Inner secrets of card magic.. or erdnase at the card table.. or Banacheks PSI series.. damn I have some catching up to do..

My CUPS splurge in the final few months of 2006 really put me in a good position with ' I own this ' but I havent got round to looking at at least 60% of it..
