Does anyone know if he will ever do a U.S. tour?

Saw this last night and was thouroughly entertained by his showman ship and the quality of the material.

I think the effects have pretty much been covered in previous posts, my particular favourite was the oracle effect (and although i can probably guess part of the method which blew everyone away, a real slay the audience masterpiece of entertainment

One of the people I was with got selected and they could do nothing but talk about it, simply amazed were her words.

Great entertainer, anyone else notice his, i guess, nervous tick? I can't imagine its part of his act.

i cant remember which book, but im sure someone will jump at the chance to show their Derren Brown Stalker-Type knowledge off....

But Derren explains how he developed two twitches in his college years, excessive blinking, and his twitching nod. i think he mentioned his nod became habitual, after he started 'nodding' whilst performing, a way to put an agreeing thought in the spec's head, me thinks...

My (encycolpedic -like) knowledge of all things Derren tells me that he sais this in several newspaper and magazine articles, and the Derren Brown fan forum says the same thing (the have asked him, presumeably).

It might be mentioned in Tricks of the Mind although I'm not sure, and also on a DVD commentary too in which he is questioned about it.

TheGurkha is right, but I'm not sure about the blinking. He started doing it when performing stage hypnosis and then close-up magic as a way of making people more suggestible and more likely not to question him unconscously and it eventually became a nervous habbit when performing. It's only really when he's on stage or in fornt of lots of people though.

I agree with Agecroft's recollection about the show and oracle act, which was pure genius. I also liked the bit when he did the phone thing.

Nicely missed out 'magic' there

Seeing DB in Hull on Tuesday front row centre seats really looking forward to that. I saw his last show in Manchester and thought I would cahnce my hand at going to the stage door with my mate and our partners. Totally surprised that others were not as sad as us which saw us having a great chat with Derren plenty of pics and he signed a couple of bicycle cards and card boxes for us as well as programmes and got my copies of Pure effect and Absolute magic signed. I was not surprised at just how much time he was willing to spend (20-25 mins)and just how easy he was to speak to. There was no doubt he puts care and effort in to chatting with his audience and admirers and is one of the reasons why i remain a fan of DB,nice fella very bright but keeps his feet on the ground. i wonder if others have found him as accomodating when they have met him.

Just seen his show:

I thought the first half was unimpressive, to be honest. The 20 questions one relied on the same technique as the opener last year and was too obvious. The rest in the first half were a bit lame as the method was clear even while he was doing them, even to a complete amateur like me.

The second half opened even worse with the table turning not working until DB actually kicked the table 3 times and then the specs played along just to get off stage. But they stood there motionless for ages and ages. It's comforting to know that it can even happen to the greats!

HOWEVER it was all rescued by the most stunning Q+A act. It was a mixture of techniques but some answers were just jaw-dropping and people were freaking out. He was amazing.

The whole show was very entertaining but I felt he underestimated his audience. On the tram back even clear "lay" specs had a fair idea how half was done, which isn't like Derren at all. But the Q+A had everyone impressed! It's the first time I've seen a Q+A myself and I doubt I'll ever see it done better.

The 'Q+A' ian69 refers to is the same as the Oracle Act, discussed above.
That's also about the only thing I agree with ian69 about, but I suppose it depends on which night you go to.

And for the record, it's 'table tipping' although Derren did refer to it as 'table turning' once in my show too.

Interesting, I had a very different and positive experience of the show and the audiences' reactions before and after.

Guess it's all subjective.

I saw this last night at Sunderland empire and was very impressed. Yes we may know how he does 1 or 2 of his effects bit the presentation was superb!!
It's too easy to pick fault sometimes, but i walked out the theatre feeling very VERY entertained!!
The first half i would say is your usual Derren brown stuff, but i loved the second half, which for me was more of a demonstration of Victorian magic!!

Would i pay to see the same show again?

Definitely!!
