Didnt expect someone from the other side of the world to know of a very small english folk rock band.
I was introduced to them by someone from Aberdeen. The album I have is
Here I Stand, and my favourite tracks include
In Your Eyes,
Street of Dreams,
And As For You, and
I Know It's Mine. My favourite track to sing along to is
A Time Of Her Own, because it feels so good in my throat. In fact, if I ever auditioned as a singer it is the song I would choose to demonstrate my voice.
I was brought up going to folk gigs and festivals by my parents, so I've seen them plenty of times. And although I'm into my rock and punk, I still love the folk tradition of telling a story with song (as opposed to the usual trend of writing about some girl that wont get off with you).
I could easily provide some more examples for you, from artists you've never heard of.
In 1997 I wrote a song called
A World Within Your Mind, which is basically a romantic tragedy with extensive use of metaphor - it's about knowing that the relationship you'd like to have can't possibly work, and eventually learning to be content with a friendship instead. The lyrics are
here and there's a very low quality recording (made in 1997, using very primitive equipment such as a cassette tape)
here. One of my dreams is to meet a folk musician
[Edit: I can't believe I originally wrote "magician" and didn't notice] who offers to record a professional quality version of this song.
