I think favourite band ever and favourite band of the moment can be different things.

My favourite ever are probably - sorry not to be weird and esoteric - either the Beatles or the Stones!

Favourite band of the moment who I can't stop listening to, are The Feeling.

Gah! I heard about a new REM album but not had a chance to get it yet. Looking forward to though! Although if it's as disappointing as the new Eagles album was I might cry...

It kicks Butt! They are back with melody as well as rock, the best album since 'out of time'. I agree that the Eagles album was very poor.

Yes, very much so. Although their latest album wasn't quite as accessible as the two previous, but I don't think I've given it a totally fair chance.

Misterblack - that's surprising, I don't know much about the Beatles or the Stones as I'm not a massive fan of either, but from what I do know I thought the choice between the two was quite devisive, i.e. "chocolate or strawberry? Daddy or chips? Beatles or Stones?"

Also, I wondered if your moniker referred to Francis Black, the lead singer with the excellent Pixies...

The Pixies... now there's a band.

I need to dig out my old Surfer Rosa and Come On Pilgrim disc.
Wall to wall top class tunes! In fact, might go look for Tonys Theme on youtube right now!

That album... man...

Everyone else raves about Doolittle but Surfa Rosa & Come on Pilgrim for me was the best. "River Euphrates" is just incredible, it's so intense you start to wonder whether the guy is actually turning into some kind of wild dog at the end.

Ah, happy memories of sixth form, drinking pint after pint of watery union lager (it got to the stage where you'd just ask for "a pint of pish please") and dancing uncontrollably at the best indie club in the world.

I can't answer so subjective a question as "favourite band". The band from which I own the greatest number of albums is Kila, but I listen to my favourite Oysterband tracks more often, although I have only a single album. And of course a lot of good music isn't played by a "band" at all.

Didnt expect someone from the other side of the world to know of a very small english folk rock band. I was brought up going to folk gigs and festivals by my parents, so I've seen them plenty of times. And although I'm into my rock and punk, I still love the folk tradition of telling a story with song (as opposed to the usual trend of writing about some girl that wont get off with you).
I love Muse at the moment, but my list could go on forever...
Led Zep
At the drive in
Eighties matchbox b-line disaster
System of a down
Levellers
Pogues
Clash
Fairport convention
John cooper clarke (does that count as music?)
Jeff Buckley
Pink Floyd
Dylan
Radiohead
Hendrix
Beasties
Beethoven
and so on....

May I just add early Dexy's Midnight Runners? Now I know that most of you are now smirking and thinking "yeah, right" but before they started wearing dungarees and recorded their awful wedding reception anthem, their first album "Searching For the Young Soul Rebels" was an absolutely corking record. In fact it is my favourite album of all time.

Before they got silly, Dexy's were actually contenders for a short while. Honest.

I was introduced to them by someone from Aberdeen. The album I have is Here I Stand, and my favourite tracks include In Your Eyes, Street of Dreams, And As For You, and I Know It's Mine. My favourite track to sing along to is A Time Of Her Own, because it feels so good in my throat. In fact, if I ever auditioned as a singer it is the song I would choose to demonstrate my voice.

I was brought up going to folk gigs and festivals by my parents, so I've seen them plenty of times. And although I'm into my rock and punk, I still love the folk tradition of telling a story with song (as opposed to the usual trend of writing about some girl that wont get off with you).

I could easily provide some more examples for you, from artists you've never heard of. :)

In 1997 I wrote a song called A World Within Your Mind, which is basically a romantic tragedy with extensive use of metaphor - it's about knowing that the relationship you'd like to have can't possibly work, and eventually learning to be content with a friendship instead. The lyrics are here and there's a very low quality recording (made in 1997, using very primitive equipment such as a cassette tape) here. One of my dreams is to meet a folk musician [Edit: I can't believe I originally wrote "magician" and didn't notice] who offers to record a professional quality version of this song.

That's a really nice song there Adrian, it'd sound brilliant with a fiddle and bodhran drum supporting it. :D
