I wondered when there'd actually be a picture on this thread.

Anyone got a card tattoo for an impressive "is this your card?" routine?
-That's dedication.

I wasnt sure which tattoo thread to reply to - there are a few threads but since this one had the most recent posting i will begin my musings here.

One of the other threads was a " magic tattoo " thread , I thought it was about the magical tattoo's Thai monks do within their beautiful temples.

When i was last in thailand i asked a local who was sporting one of these magical monk tattoos, where did he get it done? he said on his chest  eventually he agreed to take me to the temple to meet the monk whom did it as i had been after one since i started getting tattooed in the late 80s

The temple was a fair distance away but worth the treck, when we arrived the monks gave us refreshments and food and i began talking about my hopes of reciving a mystical tattoo from the monks - they said they would be happpy to give me a tattoo but first they had to know what type of magical tattoo my body and spirit required!!!

The only way to find that out was to earn it ,that meant staying with them at the temple for a few days upto a week doing chores around the temple, helping the locals and crops untill the moment of enlightenment came to the monk on what i shall recive based on my actions & deeds whilst there, i had to leave thailand in 3 days time so sadly never had the time to fufill their requirments for reciving the tattoo.Next time im in that part of the world my first port of call will be the monks temple and i will earn my mystical tattoo from the monks.

A good point was raised in the tattoo threads about branding, some people thought that this was self harming....and they are kinda right...but does anyone consider tattooing a form of self harming?
Some people see it that way as one marks the skin and goes through pain to recived ink under the skin, personally i dont think it is...but hey i have tattoos so yes maybe i would say that

I know of a few self harmers that use to slice their forearms , thighs etc with razor blades, they went for treatment to overcome this terrible illness but felt that what was offered to them through sessions, groups and the like never really helped them - it never filled the void that the self harming could give them in a kinda crazy mixed up kinda way :?

So to fill that void and perhaps help stop the self harming the idea of giving them a tattoo was suggested - bit of a radical idea perhaps but the idea works , they gave a serial self harmer a tattoo design that really meant something to them over the areas where they was self harming,
guess what ?
It helped them stopped harming themselves as they didnt want to ruin the image on their skin that they had become to like/love and that in turn made them think twice everytime they had the urge to self harm and eventually helped overcome it totally - this person nowadays is nearly covered in tattoos...is it a case of swaping one evil for another or lesser evil ?

Something i have heard in the past from non tattooed people is
" what will they look like when im an old man " my reply is always....Who cares! i will be more bothered about if i can go the toilet by myself, wipe my own backside, have good eyesight, retain my memory in my twighlight years

People forget that tattooing methods, neddles, inks and now laser treatment have come on leaps and bounds since salior jerry and the likes started tattoos back in the day - back then the inks were mostly home made, full of toxic stuff and when in the sunshine most tattoos would react and raise on the skin so much even blind pew could tell you what design you had by feeling them - so pehaps todays tattoos in the decades to come wont look so old and spread like its tattoos laid down by the trail blazers of yesteryear.

As for black ink looking black - modern methods can promise and deliver unlike the old black ink of yesteryears which in fact was dyed with seaweed hence giving that greeny/blue look many old tattoos have now.
In japan they still use this method of making some black inks with seaweed for very traditonal tattooing - if you want greeny/bluey black ink these days it will cost you a small fortune as its seen as a rare and special ink. Well i think i have mused enough for the moment on the tattoo subject - cant help it sorry, its a passion of mine

I have nine tattoos including a japanese half sleeve and even been lucky enough to have one of my tattoos published in national and international tattooing magazines.
90% of them are custom designed - yes you pay alot more for them that way but hey its there forever and the old rule...buy cheap - pay twice come into play ie cover ups - laser removal - regrets etc , so when it comes down to tattoos...DONT SKIMP on costs EVER - its just not worth it

I have a pic of one of my tattoos as my sig picture, I will try and upload a few of them in a bit once i remember my photobucket account details

Ok sorted it now.....

I like tradional style tattoos with a moden twist,Please do not reproduce these tattoo images as some of the designs are custom and copyright, use them for inspiration not plagiarism - Just like magic - be original with your designs.

With reference to earlier points made, I did read a magazine article many years ago that was written by a self harmer. She found the pain of getting a tattoo more cathartic than cutting herself so she had loads of them done.

I have quite a few tattoos and have designed my own body suit. Unfortunatly such exstensive work isnt demmed acceptable on women in our age, so until I have to wait until a)attitudes change (especially in relation to tattoos in the workplace or b) i retire at 65-ish lololololol

wow designed your own body suit - impressive . Any particular style?
I think tattoos are more acceptable in society today than they ever have been. I understand your concerns about in the workplace, even today it can be a tricky line to walk - a dream job that i really wanted and was offered was taken away from me because i had tattoos , I put all my tattoos as requested on the application form, did 3 interviews and written exams and passed everything required for the job - was offered the job and within 10 minutes had the offer taken away from me!

I had a skin coloured smiley face tattooed on my right forearm. Just can't see it is all, but I have the self-gratifying knowledge of having a tattoo!

caffa,

That Gypsy fortune teller is amazing. I could never really make out the details of your avatar, due to size.

Thanks for sharing the pic. I'm really stunned.

Any further background on that one inparticular? Which parts are custom? where did you get the inspiration?

Just amazing.

Well guys, im officially hooked...

Ive had one little tattoo done, and ive already planned my next three.

My original tat is the outline of a nautical star on my forearm next to my elbow. I want another two doing, getting slightly smaller as they go towards my wrist. Then, Im having them coloured in red and black.

Also, it sounds dead cheesy, but I want to have the Ace centre pip done somewhere. Im thinking on my other forearm, on the bit that faces you if you hold your arm out palm up.

Damn, im amazed how addictive it is!!!!

Thanks mage & taffy,she is a stunner

As for the background on the tattoo - Always liked the gypsy head tattoo with a rose but wanted something different ,It just refelcts my interests with magic, paranormal etc.
I went to see my artist looked over some material he had - none of it really caught my eye so we decided on which elements should be in the design - crystal ball, third eye, moon and stars, banner and i really wanted her look alluring from behind the crystal ball. Thats the total of the brief given really

3 weeks later i turned up at a tattoo convention to get it done never having seeing the design till then - it was like christmas morning to me

As for which parts are custom , i would say all of it! whilst the symbols used in the design are general ones, the composition and desgin etc is custom including her face - my artist drew it all from scratch,so yeah kinda custom.

The placement for the tattoo is on my inner forearm near to the wrist.

All paise goes to the artist for his vision, skill and deliverly.

The word Solitaire in the banner was my request also - as a tip of the hat to a certain james bond film

I never thought about using my tattoos as a reveal but since reading peoples posts here it something i may consider - Does anybody have any good ideas for a imprompt name reveal using Solitaire? thanks

Mark - Glad you liking you tattooing bug - Just an Idea regarding your ace pip you want on near your wrist, how bout having the corner of a card with ace pip on it pertruding from the skin on your wrist?? that way you will always have an Ace up your sleeve

I've got a band of hearts around my ankle and am toying with the idea of getting a small tinkerbell on my shoulder.
