Well, so would I. But that didn't stop me from being somewhat disappointed when I first opened Pure Effect. It is a very good book, but the contents aren't what you might think a "Derren Brown magic book" would contain. There are some effects in it, but it's mostly essays, ponderings, and musings aimed at the advanced performer. (Much more advanced than me!)
I haven't read Absolute Magic yet, but have been slightly put off it by the price and the suspicion that it covers similar ground. There are more necessary basic books that my very limited budget should go on first.
