oh Paris is a lovely city, I love it there but the people are very hard work. My French isn't great I'll admit that but in most parts of France it'll get my by. Not in Paris, they just look at me like I'm stupid until I get it 100% right.

I went to Paris with my wife about 6 years ago and while we were there we took time to spend a day at Disneyland. Gah! Awful.

BUT I did have to laugh at the gallic Mickey Mouse in his little Mouse car driving through the crowds at 30 miles an hour, tooting his little horn, swearing and puffing on a Gitane. Ah. Only in France.

To be fair, the English aren't exactly known for their friendliness, either. Especially southerners.

I'm not sure where this image of misbehaving Brits abroad has come from - surely men of every nationality are liable to throw some patio furniture over a bar if the barman isn't fluent in your language. It's every Englishman's right.

I can't believe no one quoted my, "A lack of consideration will be the fall of humanity." post in that last set of have people gotten ruder :P

I feel slighted! So that's my pet peeve being ignored!

ok not really.

For the most part you lot don't have to deal with the, "Oh its an American." stigma I get when traveling abroad.

I try very hard to research local customs and some basic words and show respect. When in Rome as it were. Usually people don't even give me time to show that I'm fit and unlikely to be caring any weapons and I can drive a vehicle that is smaller than a small land cruiser.

Not to mention I really don't want to take over their country and tell them how to run it.

Hopefully Obama fixes that issue :P

I thought the established solution was to sew a maple leaf onto your backpack.

Most of us are too dim to tell the difference! :P

I don't blame Shawn for being touchy about it. It's not difficult to check the correct spelling of someone's name; many names have more than one possible spelling. I hate it when people just guess how to spell my name and get it wrong. It's rude. If you're not sure, then ask and I will tell you. Don't just guess!

My name is Justen and everyone spells it JUSTIN drive me freaking mad.....I even got a pay check for a one Justin smith which I could not cash.

Pete: Holy Bible?
Barton: Yeah.
Pete: Yeah, I think so. Anyway, I've heard about it.

True, we have to put up with, 'Are you Australian?' :D .

I was buying stuff in a Ralphs supermarket in a few years ago in San Diego and when the checkout guy gave me my change I said said 'Cheers, thank you!' He looked at me and said, 'Oh boy, thats so PBS!'

True but Ian is the generally accepted spelling of the name so, not many people get it wrong.

So I thought... I'm proud to be a Yorkshireman but I have to say, I zoomed down to central London and back today and was very pleasantly surprised. I had to ask 4 people (including a motorcycle courier pulled up at some lights) for directions, and they were all extremely friendly. The folk I'd gone down to do business with were lovely too. So maybe we're a bit harsh on the ol' Southerners...?

Though I still maintain that Southend is the rear end of our planet.
