The Player struck me as being a self-indulgent ego trip. The fanaticism that surrounded it reminded me of the Emperor's New Clothes.

Any of Richard Curtis' romcoms... 'nuff said.

There are many many more, but I seem to have blocked them from my memory...

Sideways. Apparently, it's a comedy. I sent it back and complained that a previous renter had taken all the jokes out.

Citizen Kane
A very good movie, but not a great movie.

Lord of the Rings (all three of them)

Form an orderly queue over there if you want to hate me for that

First person to say Blade Runner is going to get banned. Mandrake told me so.

God knows I tried to plough through Lord of the Rings when I was a kid, but the saucy Confessions books, Tom Sharpe's outrageous romps and trashy sex novels carefully purloined from the local newsagent by bigger boys were far more interesting.

The best way to watch a Bond film is to watch the first 30-45 minutes for the big set piece at the beginning, and the last 30-45 minutes to see everything blow up at the end.

 STAR WARS :!: :?:

Ok... I'm not a huge fan of the newer trilogy but I was a child of the 70s and just like Woodstock, you wouldn't understand if you weren't there. Nothing had ever been seen that had the look and feel of this film. Before Star Wars most Sci-Fi (especially space themes) were horribly corny with space ships that obviously hung by a thread. The first film redefined the whole Sci-Fi and in many ways, the movie industry.

Harry Pothead... well, I do think a bit too much hype but I have to say the original Batman movies were guilty of extreme over-hype (especially the George Clooney & Schwarzenegger ones)

I also have to agree that most of today's new releases are simply over-sold and like our last Presidential campaign, they seem to drag on forever. That said, there is an neat advantage given to we consumers... the more hype leading up to a films release and the greater quantity of advertising and PR spots, the worse the film tends to be. It's like the producers know they have a POS and want to get as much up front cash as possible before the public becomes wise to it.

I would like to pat you on the back in encouragement and agreement.

The films was awful and the book was a long winded bag of self important pomp and circumstance too. 'Literary masterpiece' maybe but good read, not remotely.

Isnt it all just a thinly veiled story about idealistic hippies taking on coporations anyway?

Those with taste much prefer Peake's Gormenghast novels.....

By the way, i know Pixar movies get plenty of merchandising hype ( Cars was just ridiculous, i honestly expected the Cars Home Pregnancy Test to come out a la Krusty the Clown ), but i saw ' Up ' today and it's a real treat.
Not sure who Pixar are pitching it at, my 7 year old son only started enjoying it half way in. Before that my bottom lip was twitching. Go see.
