I actually found it a decent film once you get into it. Not worth all the hype though

Just to confuse matters with cross-pollination of threads, I thought that 2010 was highly underrated. It stood up very well as a movie in its own right.

Never cared much for 2001 though.

Every so often I meet people who genuinely think that Van Helsing was a good, if not brilliant film. I knew one guy who said it was the best film he ever saw. It was the most atrocious piece of s* that I've ever had the misfortune to sit through.

When my wife and I have seen a bad film, Van Helsing is the benchmark we use to determine how bad it was. Nothing has ever come close to it.

I have seen several dire movies before (I've seen Pretty Woman twice and Dirty Dancing at least once under duress) but only Van Helsing has had me swearing out loud in a cinema before. I actually sat through the whole film because I mistakenly thought that it might get better as no film studio would really put out such a piece of p***.

I was wrong.

There wasn't even an apology at the end.

Films and music are far too subjective to rate with any degree of validity. Only one opinion matters and that is your own. Virtually every movie and song will have devoted fans as well as those who hate it with a passion. The only way to know for sure if you will enjoy a film or song is to experience it for yourself. Other people will have their opinions, but only your own will count for anything.

Well, that's obviously your opinion. You're entitled to it, but only mine is valid! :P
