There is a tradition of Carny Geek acts, where one of the doccumented stunts was teh swallowing and reguritating of Live frogs.
Part of the routine would involve having spectators press their ears to teh performers stomach, and listen to the frogs croak.
On the same tack, It was reasonably popular to have someone swallow, and bring back fully grown live rats.

there is an account of how this stunt was performed, and a grizly tale of what happens when it goes wrong.
Incidently if your in any way into mentalism, this is a must read book. In part it talks about the old tent shows, and how some of the mediumistic stunts were accomplished.
