As is selling rip off magic tricks which is however allowed here. In fact selling rip off magic tricks is illegal but selling original DVDs is not.

Anyhow as you said
Our position is that a rule has been made and is not going to be changed no matter what arguments are brought against it.

But not condoned and near impossible to police without a team of patent lawyers which I am afraid we cannot fund! Even the creators themselves seem incapable of stopping the ripoffs, which is a real shame, but you can be sure that when I purchase an effect myself I make as certain as I can that it is not a ripoff.

I don't know about any moral highground, I don't consider myself to be taking it. And we don't choose to ignore any areas, but you can't expect us to recognise every rip off product that turns up for sale here when they are sold in all the magic stores.

Regarding not being able to login, if we had any sense we would ban you for having opened this topic up for debate again!

Don't worry Jason, we've checked IP addresses on several posts in this thread and we know exactly who is who.

True, many of the major ones are well known, but if we ban the sales of those and not others we will be in even more risk of coming under fire from double standards, and since this seems to be a large part of you earlier argument I am not sure that it is reasonable. There is also the problem that we have to be certain of the heritage of any trick that is sold. Just because a new trick comes ou that is the same as an older one doesn't mean that it is automatically a rip-off, the creator may have registered prior knowledge, in which case he would have every right to sell it and we could come under serious fire for banning its sale.

We have to have a policy that is very broad, so the one we have settled on is that dvd, video and book sales will not be allowed and trick sales will. After all, many magic dealers are unable to discriminate between rip-offs and they have potentially more to lose than we do.

And per-lease. can we let that be the last word on the subject?
