Would it be really terrible to spread the word that the rapture will come on March 31st 12.59 P.M tell the faithful they must get rid of all their money and property, take a pilgrimage to Jerusalem remove all their clothing and stand atop the Western wall. Then when the deadline is passed, say you received another message from God proclaiming 'April Fools'

I'm honestly in two minds as to whether that would be a hilarious or terrible thing to do.

Invoke not reason. In the end it is too small a deity.

12.59pm is lunch time, but if you made it 11.59pm this would be a good prank apart from the fact that naked people standing on the walll would at least be imprisoned for a few years, if not worse.

Apparently, a lot of Mr Camping's followers cashed in insurance policies, sold houses, spent the kid's college funds etc as they were convinced there was going to be no life from today onwards.

A Part of me wants to prank some super religious people by taking a pair of clothe and putting em near their house to make it look like somebody vanished.

I do feel bad though for the people who thought it was going to happen Yesterday and pretty much going to bankrupt.

The funny thing is that supposedly we were going to have The Rapture in 1995 I think, but that was wrong due to a miscalculation. Then years before that in the 70's there was supposed to be one, and a few were supposed to happen in the 1800's as well.

If I remember my Sunday School properly, it didn't say WHEN it would happen, just that we don't know when it will.

According to Wikipedia, this is the calculation he apparently used to make sure he had the dates right:

1. The number five equals "atonement", the number ten equals "completeness", and the number seventeen equals "heaven".
2. Christ is said to have hung on the cross on April 1, 33 AD. The time between April 1, 33 AD and April 1, 2011 is 1,978 years.
3. If 1,978 is multiplied by 365.2422 days (the number of days in a solar, as distinct from lunar, year), the result is 722,449.
4. The time between April 1 and May 21 is 51 days.
5. 51 added to 722,449 is 722,500.
6. (5 × 10 × 17)2 or (atonement × completeness × heaven)2 also equals 722,500.

I bet he sure had egg on his face when it didn't come and he's sitting at the church going "This could be it!". *nothing happens*.

Though knowing those types of people he probably said some excuse like "We were given a 2nd chance!" or something. Which most likely didn't help his cause, due to all his followers pretty much now losing all of their things and having nowhere to go anymore.

In the words of Nelson.

HA-HA!

Ohh... We've got until 21 October until we all die. Makes sense now, it would be quite hard to kill six billion people in one day.
