It is of my opinion that most (though, albeit, not all) magicians became magicians because they had some social issues at some point in their life.
You know, Im not sure that this is the case any more. Magic has gone through a bit of a renesance and its seen to be cool.
people out there are genuinly picking up a few tricks on line,
to do down the pub for the lads.
but this isnt much to do with the original question.
You need to look at the history of female magicians, to get a grasp of how things have changed over the years.
Prior to the box Illusion revolution, caused by P.T Selbit , and his ascociates, women in magic pretty much wore what they liked. They didnt need to show off their curves, or shaply ankles.
The box Illusion came, and the Ilusionist found that on the whole, a slim lady could contort herself to fit around blades ect. The alternative, was slim young lads.. who became thin on the ground due to wars... and this is why the assistant became the female.
alas, its taken a long time to get the balance back. But Its getting there.
