The answer is clear. Not necessarily the solution ;)

I did not intend to hijack the thread. Just all festive run.

Don't be so sensitive Ted, it's all good fun :D

Any excuse for me to put a thread hijack thread pic up

Hmm... Does "using one's powers of being a girl to enlist help from nerdy friends in finding a solution" count as cheating? :D

At this point, I'm less worried about the prize than about figuring this out (whether it's me or someone else)..!

I was thinking in a complex way but then wondered if it was more random than that.

I've ruled out a child randomly tapping. I'm now thinking of books and the such.

It's not the calculations of deep thought working out the answer to life, the universe and everything is it? :D

A clue for Ste and Lawrence:

59:6f:75:20:61:72:65:20:6f:6e:20:74:68:65:20:72:69:67:68:74:20:74:72:61:63:6b:2e:20:43:68:6f:6f:73:65:20:79:6f:75:72:20:61:6c:67:6f:72:69:74:68:6d:20:77:69:73:65:6c:79:2e:20:49:74:27:73:20:65:69:74:68:65:72:20:6f:6e:65:20:74:68:69:6e:67:20:6f:72:20:61:6e:6f:74:68:65:72:2e:2e:2e

A clue for everyone else:
Ste and Lawrence are on the right track. They just need to switch lanes.
I'll leave it to them to reveal what they have discovered so far.

The value is a hexadecimal value.

It won't translate directly into ASCII so it has been key'd with a salt of some sort. We just need to work out which method was used.

I've started a dedicated thread on my puzzle so that the Secret Santa movement can continue in peace :)

Please continue the discussion over there.

By the way, Ste may or may not be correct about the value being in Hex. I could not possibly comment, other than to say that his approach, and Lawrence's, is on the right track.
