david blaines never really impressed me recently, at first - before i started learning magic maybe, but now i realise the majority of his tricks are based on simple misdirection more than anything else ( of the ones ive seen, i rarely watch him... yawn ), as for his endurance stunts.... i just dont see the point.
though ill probably tune in in the hope of his oxygen tank failing.... :O WHO SAID THAT :O

Wow...ahah...That was terrible.

I really think Blaine's just trying to make a comeback. Criss Angel is doing all of this different stuff and has some DVDs out...I think Blaine realized he really has to step it up a notch to still be considered a good magician...and stuntman...

With all due apologies to overseas TM members, can I mention that for those in the UK, ITV1 will be broadcasting the 'action' for David Blaine's underwater event, taking over from Channel 4 who did the previous one featuring David living inside a large suspended see-through tank.

By a curious co-incidence, the Chriss Angel show this coming Thursday on E4 at 11.35pm features Chriss living inside an air bubble in a giant see-through tank, immersed in water  .

Haha! That was quite funny.

I have a gut feeling Angel will be coming out with some new stuff soon, though.

I think Blaine originally deicided to do these srunts to make his magic more believable. Mr. Joe public doesn't have a clue how the tricks Blaine performs are done and seeing him stay alive in this object, that object and the other give the impression that he has powers. Sure, its not going to fool the magic world, but i think it plays that little convincer to the public.
I just hope this osrt of thing doesn't ruin the art, with more people getting involved and revealing secrets and then taking credit for an amazing trick with a svengali deck or the like. Good luck to him all the same.

Blaine Blacks out

Blaine Blacks Out During Training

American illusionist David Blaine blacked out on Friday while holding his breath underwater in preparation for his latest daredevil stunt. Blaine was at a pool in New York City when he passed out while training to break a world record by holding his breath underwater for nine minutes. He blamed the incident on his brutal regime, telling PageSix.com, "I've been working too hard and I'm already dieting, so missing one meal can really mess me up." The illusionist will spend seven days submerged underwater in a fishbowl-like sphere and will then attempt to break the record. Filming will begin on his latest special, David Blaine: Drowned Alive, on Monday at Lincoln Center Square in New York City.

To be perfectly honest, I think David Blaine takes himself far too seriously.

"Look! I can stand on a pillar without moving for 35 hours! Film me! Put me on TV!" screams of attention seeking and money-making scammery to me...

You wont find much better anywhere and it's nothing - a rigmarole with a few bits of paper and lots of spiel. That is Mentalism

Well, i really like David Blaine (as a magician) he really don't need to be criticised all the time. he has explained why he does what he does. people never complained about houdini, all David is doing is trying to be the next harry Houdini....full credit to him

what days is it on itv

Our local radio station (Heart FM!) has a daily feature where they choose a current news item and get listeners to suggest suitable records to reflect the item or some aspect of it. Today's was David Blaine and it was interesting to hear the comments that almost any magic trick is great, sawing women in half, card tricks and so on but stunts like these are a complete yawn. Phrases such as 'get a job' and 'waste of time and space' were offered! Records suggested included:

The Air that I breathe
Breathe again
You're my favourite waste of time.
There were one or two others referring to bubbles and even 'anything by Michael Jackson' was mentioned 'cos he once had a monkey called Bubbles  .

Just wondering if TM members have any other suggestions - clean, decent and completely in accordance with the rules, of course!

I complain about Houdini all the time. He was the most over rated magician of all time and I think Blaine may go the same way if he can find a wife that is as good a publicist as Bess. :D

I can go one better than that.

I still hate Max Malini. Biting the buttons off peoples coats? How unhygienic.

.....and this things called drowned alive?...

Hmmmm

It must be pretty hard to be drowned whilst dead. Sounds like a pretty oxy-moronic name to me...
