How to stop your own pulse?

Struggling with an effect? Any tips (without giving too much away!) you'd like to share?

Now that's a great trick! I used to do it all the time, but after I tried it on a spectator once, people just didn't take to the trick anymore... I wonder why...

Funny... I first learned how to do this through an article in Boy's Life Magazine when I was about 12...

I find it odd, how old parlor gags of this sort haven't just resurfaced in the past few years, but become "cutting edge" stuff, so to speak when, in the past, they were little more than a cheap gag used as a "Side Effect" in this or that stunt... usually by Medium types in a Seance show... I think it was Randi used it for a while when he did the Milk Can Escape to prove his control over bodily functions as he prepared himself to go into the can...

I have a very unique means of using it that will be mentioned in one of my up-coming books that some of you may enjoy playing with... especially if you do Muscle Reading at all.

I will state that Luke's idea around this stunt is quite exceptional though I've never personally used it, I've watched other work with it and it's very interesting, the kind of reactions one ends up getting.

Actually now that you've mentioned it, I remember that I first came across this in some small booklet of party tricks to amuse your friends in supermarkets about 10 years ago. Guess this proves that the magic is in how you present it, rather than what you are presenting?

A gimmicked combination pacemaker/defibrillator! Ellusionist.com are offering one for $12,000, definitely a worthwhile investment. Beware of inferior spin-offs on eBay - they don't come as a package deal including the open-chest surgery necessary to install this gimmick, or the 24-hour emergency support line incase something... er... goes wrong.

"The V2000 Ultralite Death-in-a-Box is the biggest revolution in interactive illusions I have ever witnessed, ever. I got it installed and was performing in the ambulance home! It is totally self-working and works safely 95% of the time!" Bilson Markthwaite

"I couldn't believe it at first... Even I believed my pulse had actually stopped, the illusion is that powerful! Just before I passed out I saw this guy's head literally explode in amazement - it was awesome!" Jackanory Taylor

"Do you want to see specs spontaneously combust, turn inside out or just soil themselves explosively? I would recommend the DiaB to absolutely anyone, including my Gran, my dog, and my new-born child." Champ McKenzie.

You could always try holding your breathe for 9 minutes in a huge sphere filled with water whilst try to escaped from big heavy chains...

sorry for being off topic, but:

foz - Where abouts is 'Bwood'? I live near to a place called Burntwood in staffordshire. Is that the same place?

here's exactily(sp?) how you do it!

What you need: balls.

How to do it:

Step 1: Hold your breath.
Step 2: Wait 10 minutes, then go to step 3.
Step 3: If you are reading this, you have failed.

I saw a show once where the magician got two volunteers to take his pulse and tap a cymbal every time they felt a beat. He would make the pulse in each wrist go at different speeds, or stop altogether whilst the other is going like the clappers! It was quite entertaining to watch but i dont know if its the kind of thing i'd want to do at my summer barbecues!

the how part cant exactly be answered...you should know that

But no its not dangerous at all, as long as you dont do it for an extended period of time. Its really simple believe it or not.
