I'm in the "feeling a bit let-down" camp.

I think the one-number-out was deliberate in terms of adding realism whilst still making people think "But - wow! - he was only *one* out!". All dramatically done though.

As for "Ben" - well Derren does say no actors are used in his shows. Ben wasn't an actor. He was an OVERactor.

Did anyone else notice his mock look of surprise when Derren told him he was on the TV screen even though he had already looked at the screen several times prior to that?

Taking the time to over analyse things instead of doing some work I am beginning to wonder if this too was deliberate.

Assuming that it was achieved in the method most have agreed upon then the whole "I am aiming for at least 5 numbers" seems a bit pointless, you could argue tension building etc. but I wonder if it was telegraphig the 6th ball?

I think a lot of magicians sometimes use the technique of saying "This doesn't always work" before a trick to make the spectator think that something is at work that is out of their hands: They really are at the mercy of true magic.

I think the "I'm aiming for at least 5 numbers" was to build tension in terms of thinking it may go wrong.
