Is no one else annoyed by this absurd notion that David Cameron is somehow not suitable for the job because people don't like him?

My Facebook News Feed is literally crammed with people saying "Cameron is a idiot" or "Smug git in charge. Now we're *****d" etc.

Not liking someone is not a good reason to assume they are going to be bad at a job they haven't started yet.

Surely??

Or am I losing the plot somewhat?

You wont find much better anywhere and it's nothing - a rigmarole with a few bits of paper and lots of spiel. That is Mentalism

though he looks like he's made out of wax...i think he means well...however misguided he may turn out to be...

he's like the eager well meaning kid at school...him and clegg may do ok...we can only see...

we'll still get shafted one way or another obviously, but lets see....

I think him and Clegg will do a bloody well much better job than Brown. Plus i like Cameron's bluntness, he doesnt claim much that isnt feasibly possible to accomplish - in my opinion.

I went up to Parliament Square to watch the fun. News crews, helicopters, famous faces - quite enjoyable actually. And met this (now unemployed) chap...

Nick Clegg, the deputy PM, is my local MP! I'm blessed, I tell ya. Hopefully we may now get these bloody pot holes filled in. And can he make it a bit warmer too please? And I'd like to order a white Christmas now before the next general election in November please.

I've just seen them shake hands on the steps of No. 10. I dunno, but I got a bad feeling of spin from Cameron. I hope I'm wrong, but what were all those emphatic hand gestures and words about? Who's doing business at a time like that?

EDIT: Now I've seen it a couple of times, he seems to be making sure that Clegg understands something. What?

Didn't actually see it but I read the transcript of his spiel on becoming PM - have to say, whilst overall I'm a bit worried about a tory government, I do like the sound his "taking personal responsibility" stuff. Feels like Britain is full of whining babies at the moment.

I didn't vote for either of them, but a conservative government with a bit of idealistic yellow mixed in might well be just the trick... we shall see...

<soapbox>

What do I remember most about a Conservative Government?

Four Million Unemployed
As good a starting point as any, I suppose.

Poll Tax
'Nuff said about that.

Section 28
Making homophobia acceptable... nay... MANDATORY!

The 1984 Video Recordings Act
And the wholly manufactured Video Nasties Scare that came before it. All of which served to give the UK the most draconian movie censorship of any Western country. It also made Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles one of the most heavily censored movies ever to get a UK certificate.

The Criminal Justice Bill
The final act was bad enough, but the initial bill made even the most distopian sci-fi creation look like Wonderland.
Let's see:

Abolition of the Right to Silence

Giving police the power of unsupervised stop and search

Banning parties that are characterised by 'Music with Repetitive Beats' (later clarified with a reference to beats per minute - that's okay then).

Curbing right to protest by restricting the number of people that can assemble in any one place at the same time (I believe it was restrcted to nine people), and the number of vehicles that can travel in convoy (again, single figures).

I could go on about the CJB, but just digging up that bit of history has me reaching for the Prozac!

The Privatisation of British Rail
Service is now schitt, and I've lost count of how many times the private companies have come cap-in-hand to the government to be bailed out

The Privatisation of practically everything else.
It started with BT, and continued on to pretty much everything else that has the word 'British' in the title. Most of them were single-source commodities, and so the only competition that could emerge from it came down to whose name was at the top of your gas bill. And, as a result, the needs of the customer have been largely forgotten in favour of the interests of the shareholder.

Okay, I'm done now... There's much more, but I've got to carve out some happy time for myself.

Needless to say, cameron's got his work cut out for him if he hopes to top all of the above!

Oh, I like them just marginally less than any other career politicians. If they were on fire, I'd hold on to my wee wee.

i agree...however...if you look at how labour drastically changed to get into power with Blair...come on - that was basically Thatcher-lite with a perma-grin...

so i reckon the tories have got drop the chinless wonder, banking buddies thing, and change what and who the represent...

i have bad memories of trade unions, my dad worked for Fords in the 70s and 80s - but i dont think all unions are bad (just most of 'em)...

i think everyone deserves to be given a fair chance at ruining the country...

EDIT - i think Clegg could act as the jiminey cricket type character to cameron's nose-elongations...

Absolutely. Blair just continued where Major left off. New labour shouldn't be confused with Labour.

Not that Labour did well for the country either, prior to 1979.

I think the moral of the story is that neither party is fit to organise a pish-up in a brewery.

Are they really the best we've got? Can't we delegate the decision making to Britain's bees? I've heard they're clever creatures.

yeah, but labour bees downed stingers during the summer of 76 due to the wasp-government allowing immigrant ladybirds to count pollen...thats why they burnt down all their homes...
