My previous barber used to charge £3 for a shave. You could have got ten shaves in India for that money.

7.50 for me, once a month...

i love shaving...i let it all grow for at least 4 days before i do, and become an absolute hairy monster as im generally fairly hirsute...

i love the whole process, hot flannel on the face
an old fashioned wooden bowl, soap and brush
ice cold water to wash your razor (dont use warm to dip your razor in, it makes the metal expand a tiny bit)
shave along the grain of your beard
ice cold water to off the remains and tighten up the pores...

quality...i always have a nice lay down afterwards too...

i refuse to use all those stupid 2 blade shavers, why not just use the 2nd one eh?

an old fashioned razor blade in one of the traditional screw-topped razors...lovely...

£6-50 + tip, as rarely as I can manage, for a No 4 all over.

I also firmly agree with the comment of the great Sir Lancelot Spratt, the fearsome Consultant Surgeon in the Doctor in the House series, magisterially played on film by the late James Robertson Justice

" How would like like your hair cut, Sir?"

"In silence".

Normally I cut my hair myself, with clippers. Friday I did go to a barbers, which cost me £5.50.

The most expensive one was for my son, when he was five or six.
At the time, he had no tablets for his ADHD, would fight rather than sit still and there was no way he or the barber would be safe.
I dug out his passport photo, which had him with short hair. I said he wouldn't be able to go abroad unless he had it cut, to look like his photo.
Bad idea! Cost me around £1000 including expenses, to go to Disneyland Paris for four days!!!

I haven't paid for haircuts since 2002 I cut my own hair (well shave my head or clipper it when I can't be bothered to do the former) but I did have a shave at a barbershop a couple of years ago it was £10 and worth every penny :)

I don't pay for hairchops anymore... Mrs Seige is a qualified hairdresser (although this isn't her vocation, it was something she did for 'personal satisfaction' !!).

The cheapest I ever remember getting a chop was £1 at a local barber shop, all I wanted was a trim, and I ended up with a grade 3 shave all over... I looked a bit like Action Man.

The dearest cut I remember was about 30 quid for a flat top when I was a teen. Which took blooming ages and was really cool. I'd post a picture, but I fear I may be ridiculed beyond belief.

I personally hate and detest hair cuts. I have a phobia of being not in control, and having a homosexual geezer (which they usually are in barber shops) stand there playing with your ears whilst having your hands under a gown is not my idea of 30 minutes of fun.

Even with Mrs Seige chopping my locks, I grumble, fidget and moan constantly, and I usually insist that the deed is done with music of my choice on the stereo so I can take my mind off it.

BUT although I hate going to the barber, here's a little tale for you all:
About 5 years ago I was on a business trip to London with my ex-boss. We were visiting a very PRUdent and influential client, and I was along for the ride as the company 'web guru'. We got to London the night before the meeting (as it's a fair trek from where I was living) and the usual ceremony of getting rather drunk and eating a posh meal ensued (company expense accounts, don't you love 'em?).
Several jars of Guinness, and red wine, plus the obligatory nightcap of a couple of Cointreau's.
Anyway, during the night my guvner remarked that we deserved a treat, and he'd pay for himself and me to have a proper barber session in the morning—haircut and cut-throat shave, the full monty—at a decent barber.

The next day, sure enough, we had our barber session. Wonderful experience... very relaxing, thoroughly enjoyable. And by the time I got out, the hangover and fear had gone!

I thoroughly recommend it. I felt like a million dollars at my meeting, and one shouldn't underestimate a proper haircut and a shave. Although I do recall the bill for the two haircuts totalling around £50. Not something I'd do every day, but I've never had such a clean shave in my life.

Never had a professional wet shave but this thread has got me thinking into getting one done as I currently am growing a big beard for a wild west themed evening I'v been booked for.

Maybe this is a nice opportunity to try it out.

and before we via off to wildly from the original subject I dont pay either. All I need are clippers and a mirror. All this talk of highlighting and styled hair on men just aint right.
When i were a nipper my local barber (Fred's) charged 50p for a haircut and all you could get was short back and sides!

Oh, and there used to be a hairdresser in Hackney called It Will Grow Back. I think they've closed down now. I wonder why?

The hairdressers on the simpsons is called the perm bank

the one thing that made me want to cut my own hair was never having to sit in a hairdressers/barbers waiting room again I hate sitting in waiting rooms with everyone else staring at each other it made me feel uncomfortable
