After such amazing reviews, I have to say I'm rather tempted to purchase!

I've been interested in hypnosis for years, though all the material I've come across so far has been less than useful. The reviews for Reality is Plastic are very good. This does, however, seem a little 'too good to be true'.

Has anyone had any problems with learning from the book? If so, were they easy to overcome? Anyway, despite some doubts, I think I'll still purchase it some time soon!

26 pages of praise for this book.
Twenty. Six.

I think that not many people have any problems with this book ;)

I can certainly see that! Maybe it really is perfect! I just keep thinking 'where's the catch?' hehe.

The catch is you actually have to read it through maybe a couple times. Sadly, you can't become a hypnotist by simply purchasing and occasionally touching the book...

Oooh! I want to do that! My copy was sent out today in the care of Royal Mail (meaning it probably won't arrive :D). Hopefully I'll be hypnotising in no time!

Hey guys.

I'd like to share an induction I've come up with recently that seems to be very effective. I understand that almost anything can be used as an induction when done with confidence/congruence etc. but I also believe that different inductions have different merits and that this one is quite good.

Basically, after getting permission to hypnotize, I introduce a blind spot test card (an x and a dot a few inches away on an index card) and have the person find their blind spot. I hold onto the card with one hand and hold onto the spec's wrist with the other and move it around to keep it loose while I have them stare at the spot. I make the x appear and disappear a few times, then say, 'the next time the x disappears, your eyes will close and you're going to sleep'. I gently tug on the person's arm and command sleep. I had several successes with this without the use of any set pieces.

The induction has shock, pattern interruption, and eye fixation.

What do you think?

Thanks for sharing that sleightlycrazy.

Don;t know if you have Paralies by Joshua Quinn but he has an effect in there using this principle.

It had not occurred to me to use it as an eye fixation - great idea.

I had a couple of gigs in a restaurant at the weekend with extremely limited space literally had four chairs and a meter in front of them to put on a stage show. For this reason I had to change my opening.

I had everyone put their left arm out straight and hold on tight to one of my business cards. I asked them to put their right hand up palm facing their face just like I had done a handshake interrupt. Instructed them to look at a spot on their palm and to close their eyes and to simply think over and over in their mind 'I am going to drop this, I am going to drop this'. I made clear as they did this I would speak to the part of their mind I was interested in. I then talked the hand in front of their face toward their face (just like mag palms) and when it touched encouraged them in, in the usual fashion.

The thing with the cards was torn from a wonderful set of recordings by David Calof, one of Ericksons students.

Basically you ask someone to hold a card and repeat I am going to drop this. It doesn't drop so they get this other little voice in their head saying 'it's not going to drop, it's not dropping. He refers to this as subconscious panic - essentially it becomes auto suggestion. The hypnotist then flips his patter to 'you cannot drop it' and they cannot.

I just used it to occupy their conscious attention while I got that other hand to their face.

Recently I have been using Jumping Pulse from Bill Cushmans 'Suggestibilities' as my set piece and also as an induction.

I had to travel to the other office at work today for a training course.

I was talking to a couple of colleagues about hypnotism and one of the guys I've not met before said "Oh so it's you I've heard all about?"
Turns out that following a few successful inductions my fame has spread out of my work building!

"I'd love to shake your hand" he said, "but I've heard things..."
