will anybody else be tuning in to tonights slightly longer repeat on c4?

I only ask, because it strikes me odd that it's on c4, and not e4 as per usual.

I suspect that the extra couple of minutes at the end will be better edited than those in the original transmition. :)

Oddly, on Saturday night I tried out my open prediction for the first time, to a friend. He insisted on me doing it again (who'd have friends?) and for him to name the card. He also decides that in order to choose which card to deal face down, he'll ask another friend for a number. He reinvented Any Card at Any Number! So he needed to find the three of clubs (hem hem) at the 12th card. He deals through to the twelfth card, deals it face down, and the next card was the three of clubs. His reaction to this was "I was one out, like Derren Brown!"

Naturally I took the credit for it.

I'll be watching tonight episode as well, something about Friday's show just wasn't right. I just can't help thinking that either something went wrong on Friday, the programme over ran and had to be pulled quickly or Mr Brown's playing with us. There were just too many little 'not quite rights'.

Some things i noticed that others have too .....makes me think the show he`s doing in november will reveal all these into a bigger picture.

The casino episode is the one i`ve analysed the most...

1. the trick with the speed of cars .....tim westwood says he thought the speed was 30...

2. the squash ball lands on 37 which is the number of numbers on the roulette wheel..

3. on the first truck is the number 30

4. derren says at one point.."i cant tell you where i am...."
he pauses....ending that sentance and starts a new sentance with..." On the truck in front of you is a feed to the 2 monitors...

(when i play it back a few times.....its "I am ...On the truck in front of you..."

5. I`m fairly certain its derren holding the cheque....he is stroking his beard...

there are a few points in the audio that sound odd when derrens talking....more hidden messages....i can`t quite make out the context though...

Not had chance to look closer at the others as my Mrs deleted them off the Sky+...

I also agree that he blatantly had to miss on the casino.....it was a staged casino meaning channel 4 would have had to put up the 175k....

I`ve pretty much worked out all the tricks he did.....some are very simple but derren has a way of making it look much better than most could....

The one that baffles me unless theres some editing tricks is the Squash ball landing on 37.....i have a few ideas other than editing but not sure.

The lottery was easy to work out.....IMO...but derren is again good at covering his tracks by focusing on the group writing angle....making it seem feasible.

The stuck to the seat.....is just the gellar effect....twinned with the sitting position...if you follow the instructions and have the right kinda sofa you`ll find it hard to stand...not impossible but that is enough as they only need a handful to phone in....also the crowd in the studio some of them want to be on telly and will play along....

The psychic spy show......i never watch it totally as mrs was yapping in background so can`t remember to much.

Anyhow....just thought i`d air my thoughts.

Having only watched the Psychic Spy episode, my thoughts for what they are worth are that if you have to have a thread several pages long trying to explain what the shows were about and what the hidden messages are, then things would appear to have turned a bit pants. If experienced magicians can't make sense of it and are left with a feeling of "huh?", what chance have the lay public who will have made up 95% of the audience.

Whatever happened to KISS? Oh, those crazy, crazy nights...

Agreed.

It's either too cryptic and clever-clever for its own good, or it's a case of the emperor's new clothes.

Either way, it's not a good road to take. :(

Actually it makes me think that the dangling carrot, and the loose ends ensure that people will tune in come november, just in case it's explained.

Just like the way that last night's repeat was advertised as slightly longer, to get more viewers tuning in, just in case the end made more sense.

..It didnt.

I haven't spoken to one lay person who was impressed with the roulette special. Most of them just remember his 'failure' at the end.

We as magicians may get 'it', but I think Derren has certainly harmed his reputation amongst the greater public as they simply remember him failing.

'Ben' - the supposed random punter - was a joke! Slightly iffy, but did you see the sweat marks under his arms when he answered the phone? There is no way on this earth you'd sweat that much just sitting in your house watching tv.

Also, I don't know about you guys, but I use online banking most days or at least check my balance every couple of days - do you honestly think 'Ben' wouldn't notice £5000 was missing from his bank account over the course of a week?

Specials like The Seance and The Heist were breathtaking - this, sadly, wasn't.

Coming next Saturday - "Derren's House Party". Unsuspecting members of the public have hidden cameras placed in their living room. What jolly japes will that magical trickster have in store for them?

Followed at 8pm by "Jeremy Beadle - I Was Doing All This 20 Years Ago."

And at 9pm it's a re-run of a classic 1960's Candid Camera where an unsuspecting member of the public has $5000 taken from his bank account and is whisked to a Las Vegas casino to bet it all on a single turn of the wheel. Hang on a minute...

The funniest part was when they initially showed you 'Ben' in his house - remember it was a tight shot of his upper body? I assumed they were filming from a distance or from behind a wall or something.
Then Derren said 'can you see a cameraman outside your window?' as the shot panned out to reveal they were literally standing right in front of the patio door!!! There is no way 'Ben' wouldn't have seen the camerman right away!
I liked the spray paint effect though - that was cool!

what's happening in November?

I've been reading about the events online, and 90% either hate it or think DB is an idiot....

I'm a big fan, but only really liked a few little pieces. The whole show looks like a big miss now - especially after it being hyped up to be the biggest thing for years

bah! disappointed!!

I work in banking and as such saw this bit as the most plausible aspect of the whole Ben thing.

He could have just been genuinely shocked I suppose but his face was on the screen for ages before he reacted to being on the screen, only doing so after Derren mentioned it.

Of course he might have been watching QI... also it can be very difficult to see something outside in the dark if you are in a brightly lit room, especially if you're not looking for it.
