PK Ring

Postby imi_kamoze » Mar 20th, '06, 15:54

Hello peeps,

This is my first post so let me first take the opportunity to say hi to everyone!

My question is about PK rings, particulary the Wizard PK ring which I recently purchased. My problem is simple - it's to big for my fingers!

It seems as though PK rings only come in one size. Is there any way around this for people who don't have fingers like bananas? Has anyone ever tried getting one of these things resized by a jeweller? I'm considering this but I'm worried that the resizing process might cause the ring to lose it's magnetic properties.

Any thoughts?

First thing I would suggest is to get in touch with the person you bought from as they now sell one that is smaller and one that is larger than the original and they may be willing to swap.

DO NOT take these rings to a jeweller.

The ring itself isn't made of metal, and cannot be heated and resized.

I had the opposite problem—my ring was too small, but a swift email remedied the problem within days.

But I will stress again—these rings aren't malleable, so DON'T try changing anything about them!

The ring comes in small and large but not all dealers are stocking both.

Mine is far too big for me. I found a quick (not really) solution though, by wrapping a broken rubber band around my finger. Not too comfortable though.

If anyone has one they that is too small do they fancy swapping? I have quite slender fingers you see. I had no idea there were two sizes, the web site doesn't mention it.

Check at your local jewellers to see if they do those little clear plastic inserts for rings - they just clip inside and reduce the size.

This also goes for any other magnetic rings, or any magnets at all.
(although particularly neodymium, as they have qualities similar to ceramics rather than metals).

If you heat Nd-Fe-B (neodymium type) magnets above 80 degrees celcius, they lose strength, so heating them at all is a bad idea, as is subjecting them to shock (ie. hammering or attempting to deform them), both because it decreases their magnetic field, and also because they have a tendency to chip and crack into sharp dangerous shards, along with flammable powder.

As Seige stated, do NOT take them to a jeweller. Ever. unless you really hate the jeweller, and don't want your ring back :D

I attempted to get one out of a plastic fridge magnet, by hitting it with a hammer. This caused it to explode with a large spark, and a shower of strange powder

Kevin

WorldMagicShop.co.uk stock 3 sizes, as I am aware.

Although, I don't think they're 'live' online yet, but drop them an email and I'm sure they'll sort you out.

www.magicbox.uk.com stock 3 sized and i've found them very good at stocking, delivery and excellent customer service! Delivery cost's £1.50. I can't remember how much the rings and I can't check coz my internet's half down.
Hope this help's though.

Also, while we're on the subject, I'm allergic to 'impure' metal on my skin. Are the rings coated with silver/gold? Does the silver/gold rub off? If there's any chance of this happening I'd like to know as it would be quite uncomfortable. Also, are the rings very 'manly'? As a female magician I think a big chunky ring would be a bit of a givaway!

And another thing... (sorry for going on for so long) which is better; the Neomagnetic Ring, or the PK Ring?

Thanks :)

Hi Mystree

The Gold rings are Gold plated and the Silver rings are Nickel coated. you will not have a problem with the Gold ring bit you will with the silver. Their is an easy solution for this. Use clear nail varnish and coat the inside of the ring, this will stop the problem. Or you can wait for the next batch of Silver rings to come of the production which will be Silver coated.

If you need any more info do not hesitate to PM me.

I'd be very careful if you have allergies.

My gold version (barely two months old) is now rusting on the inside. I like the product in principal and maybe I just got a duff one, but be careful.

Takes me ages to scrub the orange stain off my finger after a few hours wear.
