Mark

Whilst it may only be your sense of humour, you do come across as being rather condescending towards several members.

It's apparent from your web site that you have lots of expereince but you should remember that this isn't a forum full of professional magicians.

Instead of patronising the younger members, who, after all are mainly here to learn why don't you from time to time offer some words of encouragement. You could become a great source of inspriaration for this group rather then becomming a figure of contempt.

Kev, why are you apologising?

If I came on and staretd insulting everyone on here and then turned around and said "Only joking!" (which Mark has still yet to do...) would you apologise for not appreciating my "humour"?

I know I wouldn't :?

You wont find much better anywhere and it's nothing - a rigmarole with a few bits of paper and lots of spiel. That is Mentalism

just read this thread all the way through and could not see any humour in any of your posts, I'm sure your a professional but you have exactly zip in your profile.

on the left hand side of the screen are little things called emoticons use them it allows you to say:- mark i think you were the love child of quentin tarontino and the vicka of dibbly

without causing offense or being taken the wrong way

this thread is a bit old and probably not relevent anymore but purhapse parts of it should find its way into the archives as an object lesson in how to conduct yourself while posting online.

First I shall address the gentleman who goes under the very odd name of discoman. I must say that he looks terribly posh but I am sure he isn't really.

I do not approve of "emoticons". They look like germs and give me the creeps.

As for Kev I must say that he has rather good manners which I suggest the horrible young waif from Cambridgeshire should emulate. I thank him for his apology but can assure him that it wasn't necessary. He is a Glaswegian after all just like myself and that being the case is obviously a superior human being.

As for apologies from me I am afraid there is more chance of being struck by lightning. It would be insincere. An apology is an expression of sorrow and regret. I have neither. I have only excitement and delight. I scribed my humble words to get a certain reaction. I did it on purpose. I wanted to get great amusement and upset my fellow egomaniacs. I achieved this purpose so why would I say I was sorry when I am not in the slightest bit inclined that way?

Besides I was having a little conversation with a Scottish schoolboy of good character when other people piped up without being formally invited to do so without my permission.

I must say that this EckoZero fellow is most impertinent and really must try to improve himself. I require no apology from him. I merely request him to grovel appropriately when I require him to do so.

Now I would really prefer to talk about the pricing of magic. I shall therefore try to resist the temptation to respond. It is well known that decorum is my middle name.

Then we would appreciate it if, in future, you limited your discussion solely to the subject of magic and refrained from attempting to stir dissent on the forum. It is not the purpose of TalkMagic to be a gladatorial arena for verbal combat and, whilst a number of us found the thread most amusing, in the interests of keeping the board a pleasant place to be and encouraging more literate, non-aggressive posters we ask you to stop posting in this manner Mark.

To try and stop this argument, which obviously is not going to happen.

Jolly good. I am now full of peace and love.

I shall now reward our young Scottish card magician with a morsel of my genius. If he goes to the Out of This World thread he will find a little tip for him if he likes that sort of thing.

Why thank you mark. I don't think I've ever been called a "horrible young waif". This shall go in the list of "insults that are truly quite pathetic" :D

I must say that this EckoZero fellow is most impertinent and really must try to improve himself. I require no apology from him. I merely request him to grovel appropriately when I require him to do so.

The amount of times you use the word, we'd think impertinent was your middle name. Not decorum :?

And as for grovelling... who has more chance of being struck by lightning now?

OK guys, can we all get back to pricing of magic please? Surely the price for anything at all is what someone is willing to pay for it? Collectors of fine art would pay more for a painting than I (as a complete ignoramus of such matters) would. Theatres frequently sell the same thing at the same time but at different prices, i.e. seats to a performance reflecting different parts of the theatre. If any one of us had developed a unique magic idea or routine and were thinking of selling it, wouldn't you value it highly to start with and perhaps reduce the price depending on how many copies were selling or not selling? Alternatively would we consider it best to produce only a limited number at a high price and call it quits once all were sold? Whatever method or reasoning is used, it will always be too expensive for someone but that's not a good reason to price it cheap. Just my opinion, of course!
