Not everyone can be a magician.

Struggling with an effect? Any tips (without giving too much away!) you'd like to share?

That's why there was only one Houdini, Bruce Lee, Picasso, Pavarotti, Einstein, Edison and the many other greats. If we could all be them, then I contend we would be.

Truth is most people are just average and won't ever be great. It's a fact, and the list of great people proves it.

But believe what you will and waste your time trying to be great, only to find out after much trial and error that the best you will be is mediocre. On that day of realization, is when you will have reached self awareness. 8)

It is interesting to see the list of people you list as one off's. Saddly they are not unique Picasso, there are other great artist, Edison, other great inventors, the same could be said for every other individual.

I have read biographies of several people on the list and looked at the backgrounds of others. Houdini Struggled to make a living initially. Many people said he was not a great entertainer. But he carried on, he never gave up he worked at it He became who he became.

Edison, famous for inventing the lightbulb. He was seem as a failure. people said he was crazy. He made approx 10,000 experiments that failed. he was told to stop. But he carried on, he never gave up he worked at it He became who he became.

Einstien was told he was no good and daydreamed to frequently. It is said that people said he would achieve nothing. But he carried on, he never gave up he worked at it He became who he became.

If these people listened to what you said and gave up working and trying to be the best they could and followed their dreams/beliefs we would not know them as greats today.

I am sure you have heard of KFC Colonel Harland Saunders invented a coating for chicken, he pitcheded it to over 100 people who said it was no good, he should give up he would never make it a success. Now there are franchises all over the world.

When Edison was questioned about this failure he said "I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work."

I did some work with 16 to 25 year old through Princes trust and it seems to be a growing attitude that if you do not achieve instant success or are good at something you should quit, yet most successful people show that the opposite is true.

In the field of sport it is believed that there are people who had more potential but gave up because they failed and were told they were not good enough, yet the person who was average but persevered became successful

What would the people you listed have said if they heard this out pouring.
I guess they would have proved you wrong as they did their peers and become successful.

On a similar note, does anyone remember Eddie "The Eagle" Edwards?

Indeed I do! His recent appearance on the Churchill Insurance adverts gave rise to some interesting data, apparently more people recognised him than they did Geoff Capes or Ricky Hatton. In fact, I think Eddie was the second most recognised face, Rolf Harris being the most recognised.

How can his face ever be forgotten. He was inspirational. It is a shame there are not more people ready to have a go like he did.

There are plenty of Eddie "The Eagle" types in the magic world giving it a good go!

I was being rather cynical, there are probably a lot of people out there doing it, :D

Interesting mention of sport. While I'm far from a great, I have represented Great Britain at triathlon in 3 world and 1 european championship despite being hopeless and showing no potential for sports when I was at school.

Head down and work hard and you'll get there in the end.
